FISH SERIES
At first glance the paintings captivate with striking colour and movement; the compositions read as vibrant and celebratory, but up close? Bodies press together in frenetic clusters; eyes bulge, scales catch harsh light, lips caress. Strong highlights carve across wet surfaces while deep shadows create depth and drama. Saturated midtones glow between these contrasts, while negative space is an arena for abstraction and gesture. Simple form and subtle expression introduce ambiguity — inviting viewers to question whether they are witnessing something playful, unsettling, sensual, or maybe even all three?

The Process
Creation for Ben does not feel optional — it’s instinctual, and paint is his medium of choice. His process begins with structural sketches and thin foundational layers before moving into broader colour and shape blocking. From there, a sustained push-pull between light and dark; indulgence and restraint. Directional brushwork, textural passages, and impasto highlights build a surface that feels alive, allowing the work to emerge through layered intuition rather than strict adherence to method. Benjamin thrives in a place of playful experimentation, problem-solving, and discovery.

Miniatures
While canvas is now the main pride and joy of Ben's painting, the spark was originally re-ignited by painting gaming miniatures for the tabletop. From there he moved on to larger figures and collectible display pieces.
